Program Description

The Sixth Annual State Bar of Michigan Business Law Section Symposium, “Experts and Trial Practice” will explore various aspects of the use of experts in litigation, trial practice and judicial perspectives. The format will consist of panel discussions and individual presentation, with audience participation being strongly encouraged.

The first panel will address the issues facing young lawyers going to trial early in their career. The panel will be moderated by Daniel Ravitz of The Miller Law Firm. On the panel will be Mahde Abdallah of BSP Law; Jacob Campbell of The Miller Law Firm; Isra Khuja of Rossman P.C.; and Paige Szymanski of Taft Stettinius & Hollister LLP.

The Expert Panel will consist of Daniel Agauas of B | Riley Advisory Services; Van Conway of Van Conway & Partners; Thomas Frazee of FVF Consulting; James Harrington of MDD Forensic Accountants; and Jesse Ultz of Stout. Mark Rossman of Rossman, P.C. will moderate this panel.

The Judicial Panel will consist of retired Federal Judge Victoria Roberts and U.S. District Court Magistrate Judges Kimberly Altman and Anthony Patti. Sara MacWilliams of Doerr MacWilliams Howard will moderate this panel, which will cover various issues, including civility and decorum, negotiation, experts in court, and other issues.

The final segment of the program will feature E. Powell Miller of The Miller Law Firm presenting on opening statements at trial.

Doors open and check-in begins at 4:45 p.m. Program starts promptly at 5:30. Food and beverage provided throughout the evening.
